Are You a Lancôme Blog Contest Winner?

September 21st, 2009 by joseph

Thanks to TT for reminding me we have a ton of giveaway winners to announce. Here is the first set of winners. More names to come later in the week, including all of the Fashion’s Night Out winners…

—Cremitas y Maquillajes! You won all of the Lancôme products in the Michelle Phan summer sunset eyes video. It’s about time you won something! Thank you for all the support and great comments.

—Older Girl Beauty! You won the Lancôme product that our spokesmodel Elettra wore to the “Inglorious Basterds” premiere. If you’re a 30+ gal, you should check out the Older Girl Beauty blog.

—Deanna G! You won the Lancôme products used in the Arlenis video. Deanna doesn’t like when there are long lists of products in the video information box. Deanna, one of the reasons we do it is because a lot of makeup artists watch the videos, so we like to have the information for them. Also, we don’t want to fool people into thinking they can get the look with one or two items. Sometimes it takes a village–of product. But we’ll definitely keep in mind that it can be an overwhelming amount of information!

—Charity! You won the red makeup bag and beauty goodies that come inside.

—TriciaD! You won the black makeup bag plus goodies.

—Tlnhtrn! You won the blue makeup bag plus goodies.

Now, if the three of you want a different bag color, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. There’s a teeny tiny chance I might be able to get you the color you really really want.

Thanks to everyone who posted comments on all of these entries. We appreciate you taking the time to read what we write. Check back tomorrow for another great giveaway.

It Was So Beautiful at L’Wren We Could Barely Stand It. (Fab Giveaway Alert!)

September 18th, 2009 by joseph

I’m always sad when Fashion Week ends. But thank goodness for Style.com and New York Magazine’s collection coverage. You can feel like you were there. (Okay, almost.) So here’s the beauty report from L’Wren’s show, which we were so thrilled to do for a second season. L’Wren’s so amazing and stylish (that’s her above with Mick Jagger, who was there) and she has the chicest show around. It was held in the all-white, box-like Gagosian Gallery. The few dozen guests sat at a long white table and enjoyed lunch while watching the show. It was insanely civilized. Everything was white except for the clothes and the pink roses on the table.

Aaron De Mey, our brilliant artistic director for makeup, delicately layered different products and textures to get the Marie Antoinette-inspired look. He swept cream blush along the cheeks, followed by translucent powder and powder blush. Next, he dusted taupe shadow over the entire eyelid and under the lower lashes, followed by several coats of mascara in black. A dab of clear gloss on the eyes imparted a wet finish. Next, Aaron carefully applied dark berry lipstick with his fingers and layered with berry-colored gloss for shiny, color-saturated lips. To perfect the skin, Aaron used YSL Touche Éclat then pressed Shu Uemura matte face powder onto the skin and up to the hairline.

Watching Aaron, I realized that I need to apply my makeup more delicately. Aaron applies everything in light layers, building as he goes if more intensity, color or coverage is required. I try to apply enough all at once, then remove the excess with my fingers, a sponge, Qtip, whatever. You get a much prettier result with a lighter touch and with layers.

All the models got black-rose mani-pedis from nail pro extraordinaire Yuna Park and her team. Trust me when I say you’re going to want this nail polish when it comes out later this year. (You can see the nails sported by model Danielle Hamm in the first picture above. The gorg models in the third picture are Maria Kashleva, Alla Kostromicheva and Addison Gill.) The crimped, cotton candy-like buns were created by living hair legend Serge Normant.

So here are the Lancome products that were used:
Lancôme Color Design Blush in Petticoat Pink and Pret-a-Plum
Lancôme Blush Subtil in Rose Fresque
Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Chic
Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Pure
Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Mascara in Waterproof
Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge in Berry Noir
Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Molten
Lancôme Le Vernis in Untamed Plum (this is in the Holiday 09 collection, available in November)

Tell us what you think of this look and you’ll be entered to win all the Lancome products above. Even the nail, which only editors have received to date! Please post by end of day Tuesday. Have a great weekend and good luck!

L’Wren Scott Spring 2010–So Beautiful!

September 17th, 2009 by joseph

The L’Wren Scott show was amazing. It was all about layers of product, but in the lightest, prettiest way. Here are a few photos from today. Tomorrow, we’ll have all the products, how-to and more pictures!

Spring 2010 Fashion Week Observations…And a Model Survival Kit Giveaway!

September 16th, 2009 by joseph

–Models need to smile more on the runway. Why is this such a no-no?
–Tavi the blogger (2nd pic above) is fab. If you haven’t checked out her blog, do so.
–Most of the runway models are too skinny. Thank goodness for models like Anne V. who actually look healthy.
–Hot Hairdo Number One: the top knot. No one rocks this better than Teen Vogue editor Laurel Pantin, who we spotted at VPL.
–Hot Hairdo Number Two: the black mushroom. Tao Okamoto (above at Zac Posen), a current runway star, is sporting this look, as are several other models. It’s nice to see short hair on the catwalk.
–Break out your fuchsia lipstick. The lips at Peter Som were fantastic (even though we can’t take credit for them!). I’ll be breaking out my Rock Icon Fuchsia lipstick before the week is over.
–Maybelline’s Charlotte Willer mixed baby blue eyeshadow with Vaseline and used it as mascara at DKNY. Interesting, right? Style.com’s Celia reported on this interesting trick in her Beauty Counter blog. The picture (above) reminded me of the blue-green lashes on Madonna in the new Vuitton ads. Is this runway/editorial only? Or is this something you could actually wear in the real world? If you try, let us know! I think we’ll make the Lancome interns do this next week!

Check back tomorrow for the low down on the L’Wren Scott show. We’re doing the makeup. Very exciting. In the meantime, tell us your favorite Spring 2010 show to date (check out Style.com to see all the shows) and you’ll be entered to win Lancome’s model survival kit: L’Absolue replenishing cloth masks and a bottle of Bi-Facil, the world’s best eye makeup remover. Please post by Sunday. Good luck!

How Was Fashion’s Night Out? The Verdict!

September 15th, 2009 by joseph

Here is the totally overdue report on Fashion’s Night Out. The PR team split up that night so we could man the different outposts. I headed to Saks Fifth Avenue to meet Daria, who just gets more and more beautiful. She was wearing Isabel Marant suede over-the-knee boots, Maria Cornejo leather leggings and a little bit of makeup. Tons of people stopped by for photos and to get Daria’s signature on their bottles of Hypnose Senses, the new fragrance launching next month. It’s a very pretty scent in the fragrance family known as chypre (just say “sheep” with a slight French accent and you’ve got it). Lots of VIPs swirled around the beauty floor, like Vogue beauty director Sarah Brown, Essence beauty director Mikki Taylor and supermodels Julia Stegner and Coco Rocha. Saks felt like one big party.

I was bummed to miss the fun at Bloomingdale’s SoHo. Arlenis was there, along with many of our favorite beauty bloggers. Check out the video above, shot there by our friends at Daily Makeover during the event.

I hopped in a taxi to get to our Upper West Side boutique party. I couldn’t believe all the people we passed by, all dressed up and walking from store to store. Everyone was in such a good mood. The boutique party was a blast. Lots of Henriot Champagne, Magnolia cupcakes, more of our fave bloggers, models, makeup artists, editors, even a Food Network star. Sandy Linter, Daniel Martin, Andrew Sotomayor, Veronica Webb, Chris Benz, Elettra and even our boss were there. Several people put their name on the waiting list for the Chris Benz lipstick–a real test of faith as we didn’t reveal the color. One lucky person won two tickets to Chris’ show.

Were any of you in New York City that night? If so, I’d love to hear what you thought–and what you bought.

Chris Benz Spring 2010

September 14th, 2009 by joseph

We just returned from the Chris Benz show. It was so pretty. The whole PR team just gasped when all the models were assembled for the presentation. First off, it was so exciting to see how beautiful the Chris & Tell lipstick looked on everyone and how it works on so many different complexions.

Second, the clothes were so colorful, so fun and so optimistic. You couldn’t help but smile when looking at them. We decided the models looked like human macarons in those yummy bright pastel shades!

Chris is so amazing. And so is Daniel Martin, the makeup artist for the show. We have to run, but here are a few pictures, including one of Delphie, our favorite new model. Click on the picture for a closeup look! More tomorrow on Chris, plus the other shows we’ve seen to date and as promised Fashion’s Night Out.

Meet Chris Benz, Elettra and Daniel Martin! And Enter to Win Our Next Pout-a-Porter Lipstick!!

September 9th, 2009 by joseph

Fashion’s Night Out is almost here! Everyone I’ve talked to, from my friends at other beauty brands to the Lancome advisors at Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue, is really excited. At Lancome, we’re ending the night with a party at our boutique on the Upper West Side at 69th and Columbus from 8 to 9 p.m.

We have lots of fun in store. You can meet designer Chris Benz, Lancome spokesmodel Elettra Wiedemann and makeup artist Daniel Martin. As you know, we’re doing one of our limited edition Pout-a-Porter lipsticks with Chris. The waiting list opens tomorrow night at the boutique (you know how fast Behnaz and Proenza sold out!) and the first 10 people to put their names down get an official FNO t-shirt. Everyone who signs the waiting list will be entered to win two tickets to Chris’ show next week.

And there’s more! We’ll have Champagne from Henriot and cupcakes from Magnolia right across the street. A little bird told me that superchic supermodel Veronica Webb will be stopping by, as will Food Network star Claire Robinson. Makeup artists Sandy Linter and Andrew Sotomayor will also be on hand. Vogue beauty editor Christina Han will swing by with some of her model pals and the whole Lancome P.R. team will be there along with our all-star interns!

So obviously it’s going to be a fun night.

We want you to be part of the party wherever you live so we’re giving away an official FNO t-shirt plus a Chris Benz lipstick. You will be the envy of beauty junkies around the world because only you and select VIPs will have this until it goes on sale in February 2010. Tell us what designer we should do our next Pout-a-Porter collaboration with and you’ll be entered to win. We’ll select one post at random. Please post by Sunday night.

Any of you coming tomorrow? Let us know!
