I’m working backwards through the giveaways, but congrats to Annalene, who won the Collaser-5x serum, and to Andrea, who won Definicils and Oscillation mascaras. We’ll announce the winners from earlier giveaways next week. I’m doing these two now because so many of you posted questions. I’m going to answer most of them here:
Jenna–I find that curling mascaras don’t work on me either. I have curly hair. Maybe that has something to do with it. But the one reliable thing for me is my Shu Uemura lash curler. Kevyn Aucoin told me to use it and I do, practically every day, followed by Definicils. But if anyone out there has had great experiences with curling mascaras, let us know.
Lovely–Oscillation isn’t creepy! People are actually surprised how subtle the vibration is once they try it. If you buy Oscillation, just remember to follow the directions. Apply slow, straight and steady. No zig-zagging.
Formula1Dragon–Consumer Reports Magazine recommends replacing your mascara every three months. I find that’s about right. A good trick is to smell your mascara. I find that when a mascara is ready to go, the smell changes. You can also tell by how it’s performing. If you’ve had it too long, the formula could thicken up and it won’t go on as well.
Aleta–I know people are looking for bargains today. But nothing’s worse than thinking you’re getting a bargain only to find you wasted your money. I would be shocked if anyone was ever disappointed by Definicils. It’s definitely my HG mascara. As for Oscillation, I know people have been scarred off by the price tag, but you would be amazed what you can do with this mascara–without redipping the wand. You’d have to redip another mascara wand 10 times to achieve what you can with Oscillation because of the vibration and how it maximizes the product. Also, speaking of bargains, don’t forget our gift with purchase program. It’s a great deal and we have some awesome GWP bags coming this fall.
Robby Raynebow–How are you? If you have oily skin and you find that other serums are too heavy, you might like Genifique. The texture is incredibly lightweight. Also, be careful about layering products. You might be using too much product for your skin type. You could use Genifique or another serum alone and see how that works.
Marciella–Sorry that you feel information overload! That’s easy, however, especially with serums. It’s hard to tell what serum you should use and under what moisturizer. Definitely stop by a Lancome counter and ask for a consultation. You’re under no obligation to buy anything. I was part of the serum-confused population until I started using Collaser. If someone forced me to pick one Lancome product I couldn’t live without, it would be very hard to chose, but I’d probably pick Collaser.
Shelz–Thanks for the nice post!
More mascara and serum questions? Post them here and we’ll try to answer.

There are a few things you can do to prolong the life of your mascara.
Firstly, and most importantly, try not to pump the wand into the tube, this pushes air inside and can make the product dry out prematurely and might also add bacteria.
The next tip is, every so often when you feel the wand is becoming clogged simply wipe off the excess and run under hot water. I like to use and antibacterial wash and dry thoroughly before replacing the wand in the tube. turn the tube upside down to keep out the air whilst you do this.
lastly, if you feel like all the product has settled in one side of the tube, hold it upright and roll it vigorously between your palms, this should help to redistribute the product inside the tube.
Hope this helps!
