I think the discussion 'is Fashion design?' is redundant, as design is a horizontal enabler, not a vertical industry. Horizontal as in it enables across all industries. Fashion uses design, but it also uses manufacturing and styling .... architecture uses design, but it also uses engineering and building. Design should never be considered in sole context.

Nice post. It is always good to see people doing new and innovative things. I would like to suggest you a similarly innovative magazine - PEOPLE MATTERS started by an Indian School of Business (ISB)Hyderabad Alumni, which was suggested to me by a friend.

It deals with various important aspects of management, especially those related to Leadership & People Management, which the mainstream business publications often ignore.

It's also relatively cheap. I guess its annual subscription is about Rs. 400 which is even less than the cost of a standard Pizza.

Their last issue had a really educative article by Robert Kaplan (the father of Balanced Scorecard method) where he talks about how organisations can create opportunities out of current economic downturn.

I got its subscription online through their website: http://www.peoplematters.in

If you like the magazine, kindly refer it to others like I am doing.

Thanks

I think this sounds like an issue worthy of a team using the Design Thinking Process to get their arms around. I think deep research into the needs of students, teachers, potential employers and the future is needed. I think it is too early for a manifesto or list of 'to dos.' The Eames anniversary is the perfect occasion for an international forum of people who really care about and know something about what great design education is all about. Like 7 of them.

I had a lego set and spent many, many of the happiest hours of my childhood making and breaking and re-making things. I gave it away some years back but i really regret that. It was the best toy ever, wonderful for kids.

Just came across this one, guess I have been absconding from the usual forums like Design India and Facebook.

I loved looking at the pics, a younger NID and of course a young MPR! I think I did spot Aditi in there too ;-) Its remarkable, thank you for taking us down memory lane - you balance of the personal and the objective bits - of history, fact and points of view is, as always, articulate, refreshing and welcome.
