Leading car maker Tata Motors today launched the new model of its successful brand Indica, ‘Indica Vista’.
Since Indica’s launch more than a decade ago, the company has produced 9.1 lakh units. In financial year 2006-07, Indica achieved a sales of 1,44,690 units–highest in a year for the car.
Indica Vista is launched in seven variants and priced at Rs 3.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi for 1.2 L petrol at the low end up to Rs 4.88 lakh for the top end.
Speaking to reporters, Tata Motors President Rajiv Dube said, “We will take Indica Vista in six months to international market.”
The company is not entirely phasing out the old Indica. “Of the 12 old variants, six or seven still exist in the market,” Dube said.
Tata Motors has agreed to invest Rs 1,700 crore in expanding capacities in various plants. It has a tie up with Fiat, too.
Dube said the tie up with Fiat is a complementary one. Tata Motors and Fiat would not compete with each other in the same segment. Fiat would launch cars in the premium segment, he said.
Group Chairman Ratan Tata after the launch said in a statement, “The second generation Indica Vista showcases the progress Tata Motors has made over the last several years of its first outing in the passenger car business in design, quality, technology, performance and refinement.”
The second generation Tata Indica was revealed today! A very prestigious time to reveal the 2nd generation Indica as this year 2008 is the anniversary year of the Indica, which was first launched in 1998. The 2nd generation Indica, said by Tata will be a great change from the current Indica in areas of style, space, comfort, engine and refinement!
Lets get to know the engines properly – 3 engines are available. 2 Diesels and 1 Petrol.
- The 1.2L Safire MPFI petrol engine produces 65bhp @ 5500 rpm and torque of 96Nm @ 3000 rpm. The Safire has a continuous variable cam phaser (CVCP) for improved drivability and fuel economy and a drive by wire technology for accelerator pedal control.
- The 1.3L Quadrajet Common Rail Diesel engine develops a healthy 75bhp @ 4000 rpm. The Quadrajet operates at 1400 bar with 4 injections per cycle and delivers a high torque of 190Nm @ 1750 rpm over a flatter speed range for better city driving.
- The existing 1.4L Turbocharged intercooled TDi engine is also available which is further tweaked and refined. It produces 71 bhp @ 4500 rpm and torque of 135Nm. The gearbox will be changed from the current one to a new smooth shift gearbox.
The new Indica will come with a 24 month, 75000km warranty (which ever occurs first), which can be further extended to another 2-year warranty. It will also be available in 7 colours – Gala Red, Solar Orange, Cavern Gray, Marine Silver, Arctic Silver, Noble Blue and Infinity Black.
The Indica’s front has changed drastically mainly due to the swiped back peugeot-like headlights. Though the rear tell you properly that it is still an Indica. The interiors too have been taken care of and this time its a dual-tone cabin which includes beige and grey. Black instead of grey would have been great.
Some of the features in the new Indica Vista:
- Height-adjustable driver’s seat.
- tilt-adjustable steering wheel
- Power windows
- Under seat storage unit
- Huge glove box that can fit a laptop
- 14″ tubeless tyres
- 60:40 rear flip and fold seat
- Digital display that shows how much Distance you traveled
- 2 DIN CD system with USB port
- New twist beam suspension
- Gas filled shock absorbers
The existing Indica will continue to exist with a rationalised portfolio – the lower versions of the 1.2L Xeta and the 1.4L naturally aspirated IDI diesel and one version each of the DICOR and TCIC diesel, the latter being available with ABS and Airbags. Between the existing Indica V2 and new Indica Vista range, customers will have a choice at every step of the Rs 2.6 lakhs – Rs 4.88 lakhs price range.

August 27th, 2008 by manikandanIs it really any surprise that the Chinese government has developed a conversational etiquette guideline for the country’s residents when they meet foreigners during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing? The Chinese, who have a strong inclination for the number lucky number 8, which they consider lucky will entertain record number spectators at the Olympics, beginning the eighth of August at 8.00 pm (8/8/08 at 8.00 pm).

The last thing the gracious host wants is to offend or to create cultural gaps during the events. In step with that tradition of eight, the Chinese have issued eight don’t ask questions. The Eight Don’t Ask propaganda posters are displayed prominently around the city and prepare the country’s citizens for dialogue with its guests. In order to avoid being considered in bad form and to minimize any potentially awkward situations the government has instructed citizens to avoid the following conversations:
• don’t ask about income or expenses
• don’t ask about age
• don’t ask about love life or marriage
• don’t ask about health
• don’t ask about someone’s home or address
• don’t ask about personal experience
• don’t ask about religious beliefs or political views
• don’t ask what someone does

Apparently it is normal everyday idle chit chat for Chinese to ask people they just met such questions. And occasionally those asked such personal questions find them intrusive, responding negatively. The edicts don’t stop there. The local city government issued a comprehensive etiquette book to 4 million households instructing residents not to wear, such as limiting garments colors to three, no white socks with black shoes, and no parading in pajamas and slippers. The books details the proper procedure when shaking hands, advises that there should be no public displays of affection, describes that feet should be slightly apart or in the shape of a V or Y when standing, and that a handshake should not last more than three seconds. The government has also issued warnings against queue-jumping, spitting, littering and speaking too loudly in public, all in an effort to project a good image to outsiders. However, some of the locals are not happy with these restrictions. Would you want your country instructing you on how to behave in public? Actually maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Respect and consideration go hand in hand. They should be practiced in a reciprocal manner. Hopefully the World will return the favor and smile upon the Chinese and their effort to make the Games a success for all.

It is supposed to be an airshow, both pilots on the right should have missed each other.
It just happened, 60 miles from Warsaw, spectators looked helplessly as both plane crashed into each other.
Debris was blasted across the sky without sight of the pilots.
